I.Q.F.: Individually quick frozen. Fillets are packed IQF in 2 or 4 oz. gradations; 2-4, 4-6, 8-10, etc. Typical species packed in this manner are whitefish, sole, cod, and Pacific rockfish. Shrimp are also sold IQF, breaded or unbreaded in various forms.

Icefish - (Scientific Names: Champsocephalus gunnari & Notothenioidei Species) are fishes that lack red blood cells and hemoglobin (their blood is clear or white), and have larger hearts and gill blood vessels to cope with the cold waters of the Southern Ocean. Icefish have no scales, grow to about 30cm and can live for 40 years. Icefish live in the Atlantic and Indian sectors of the Southern Ocean, as well as the continental shelf waters surrounding Antarctica. Water temperatures in these regions remain relatively stable, generally ranging from −1.8 to 2 °C (28.8 to 35.6 °F).

Illex Squid - Illex Squid, commonly known as the northern shortfin squid (Illex illecebrosus_, is a species of neritic squids in the family Ommastrephidae. Squids of the genus Illex account for 65% of the world's cephalopod captures. Illex is formed by four taxa distributed throughout the Atlantic Ocean (I. argentinus, I. coindetii, I. illecebrosus and I. oxygonius). Northern shortfin squid is a moderately-sized squid with females ranging from 20 to 30 centimetres (7.9 to 11.8 inches) in mantle length while males are generally smaller with mantle length ranging from 18 to 27 cm (7.1 to 10.6 in). Northern shortfin squid has short tentacles with a long and narrow head which is connected to the long mantle.

Immersion Freezing - Freezing by placing seafood products in direct contact with a refrigerant. The refrigerant can be applied as a bath or spray, in batch- or continuous-type freezing operations prior to packaging for subsequent frozen storage. individually quick frozen The same as frozen, but indicates the individual forms have been frozen separately, usually by cryogenic means. This prevents the forms from sticking together and facilitates use.
